Historical Hitter August 22: Wes Ferrell
On this day in 1934, Boston’s pitcher rescues the team from defeat with his arm and bat. He goes the distance, all 10 innings and limits the visiting White Sox just two runs and seven hits. Wes’s Hall of Fame Brother Rick Ferrell caught all 10 innings.
With the bat, he ties and wins the game. In the Boston bottom of the 8th with one out he hits the game tying home run. In the bottom of the 10th he hits the game wining walk off home run. BoSox 3 – ChiSox 2.
The Ferrell heroics, however, did little for the Bostonians as they finished 4th place some 24 games behind the pennant winning Tigers.
